In 2016, I suffered a life-threatening post-surgical complication. Following 10 days in ICU, I was diagnosed with a life-altering chronic condition known as Hypoparathyroidism. I lost a significant amount of physical strength, and the process to recovery was slow. I needed weekly bloodwork to help balance my medications, went in and out of debilitating physical symptoms and was beginning to spiral toward anxiety and depression.
I was active, energetic and always made calculated and conscious health choices. I had tons of experience and a thriving professional career in healthcare, but an undetected Vitamin D deficiency threatened the entire trajectory of my life.
Fast forward, I have regained improved balance and control with my health. I understand the many challenges that come with maintaining a quality lifestyle while navigating a chronic health condition. It is NOT always easy.
